Adam Rick you dont give alot of info as far as the set up of your house. i have instaled pellet stoves and wood stoves in houses before. pelet stoves are convient but the cost more to runand they can be tempermental because they have a feededing augerthat needs to be timed. i also know many guys that burn corn in there pelet stoves. so if you had the room or acces to a supply of field corn that could make you more self sufficent. but i like wood better. most peolple i know that have wood will put a few logs on in the morning maybe another couple before they leave then they will put a few more on whenthey get home and again before bed. if the fire runs out before more wood is added the back up propain system will keep you warm. I also like the outdoor boilers but it will cost more but then you dont need to bring fuel into the house. i belive the best for resale value and ease of use would be a geothermal system.

Jarred Cooper Having grown up on a farm where we cut fire wood to heat our home I can say without reservation...go with the pellet stove. I have to say that the nicest set up I ever used was a wood cook stove heating a fishing cabin that had an insert to also heat our water, but the labor involved with cutting wood to maintain a fire is considerable when compared to loading a bag of pellets once a day.
